Easy Melt And Pour Soap

Equipment

1 x medium glass bowl

1 x rubber spatula

1 x soap mold or similar (see video)

Digital scales

2 small bowls

Kitchen knife

Microwave or double boiler.

Ingredients

  • 1kg melt and pour soap base (like this one) You can use white or clear soap base.
  • 2 teaspoons colourant suitable for soap making (I used 2 tsp indigo powder) see alternatives below.
  • 15g your choice of essential oil
  • Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl)

Method

  1. Chop the soap base into small squares and place into glass bowl.

  2. Place 2 tsp of the colourant into a small bowl then add 2 tsp of rubbing alcohol. Mix until smooth. Set aside

  3. Measure out your essential oils in a small bowl if using, and set aside.

  4. Melt the soap base in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between until it is completely melted and runny with no lumps. If you don't have a microwave, fill a medium saucepan of with 1/3 of water. Bring to a simmer then place the glass bowl on the top. Stir until completely melted.

  5. Add the essential oils if using and the colourant and mix until it is well combined.

  6. Pour into your mold and leave to set undisturbed for 3 hours until hard again.

  7. Remove from the mold and cut into bars.

The soap is ready to use as soon as it is hard which doesn't take very long.

Alternative colourants and additives.

Colourants - 2 teaspoons of any one of these - cocoa, spirulina, powdered clays, activated charcoal or any colourant suitable for soap making.
