A Hack To Stop Mould Growing On Your Berries

This is a hack to stop mould from growing on your berries...and I can categorically confirm that...it works!

If you've ever bought a punnet of berries, popped them in the fridge, then when you pulled them out a day or two later found mould on them (and who hasn't), you will want to try this hack the next time you bring some home.

Mould on your berries is so annoying. They aren't cheap and they should last for more than a few days...don't you agree?

So, when a hack to keep them fresher for longer without any mould popped up in my Instagram feed (thanks Nicole Jaques), I decided I was going to give it a go.

Side note...I've tested plenty of these 'hacks' from social media so I was a little dubious.

But guess what!

They lasted for 2 weeks without any mould.

Of course, this would depend on how ripe they are when you do this process, but it's definitely worth doing if you aren't going to eat them straight away.

💡OMG...I'm just thinking...how good would it to be to able to buy your berries well in advance for Christmas so you don't have to go shopping just to top the pav...genius!

I tested strawberries and blueberries and the results were great for both.

If you're a skim reader, before you jump in...just make sure you take note that the water for the strawberries is cooler than for the blueberries.

Strawberries (or raspberries & blackberries)

  1. Remove the berries from the container.
  2. Heat a saucepan of water until it reaches 50°C then remove from the heat.
  3. Place the berries into the water and stir gently for 30 seconds.
  4. Drain, then allow them to dry out for 5 minutes on some paper towel.
  5. Line the container that they came in with dry paper towel and return them to the tray.
  6. Keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

Blueberries

  1. Remove the berries from the container.
  2. Heat a saucepan of water until it reaches 60°C then remove from the heat.

So there you go...I can now 100% confirm that this hack really works.

No more fuzzy berries for you 🍓🫐🍓

You're welcome.
